  • Open your lined book and write the date at the top.
  • Write the heading ‘Global connections’.
  • Write your answers to the question in your book.

Australian Animals Week

This week, we have learned that some Australian Animals are endangered. Today, we are learning about how people have found creative ways to help animals.

I know I have learned this when I can:

  • read a book and identify key information
  • understand ways people are helping animals
  • write down sentences to express my ideas

STEP 1:

  • Read the book, “How Do Wildlife Crossing Save Animals” below:

STEP 2:

  • In your green lined book, write today’s date
  • Write the heading “Saving Animals”

Independent Activity:

Answer the following questions about the book:

  1. Go to page 12: find the first thing people did to stop animals being hit by cars on the freeway
  2. Go to page 18: find 2 things people built to help the wildlife cross the road
  3. Go to page 24: list how many different kinds of animals were found to be using the crossings.
  4. Go to page 25:  Finish this sentence:

_______preferred to cross at the bridges and

______preferred to cross at the tunnels.

Now its your turn to write.

  • My Ideas [write a paragraph of 8 sentences or more:
  • Do you think we should build animal crossings in Australia? Why/Why not?

Pizza Fractions

I am learning to show simple fractions using models and symbols, including halves and quarters.

I know I can do it when I can use models and symbols to show halves & quarters.

Watch

Review

Review the slideshow and see the different ways we can split things into halves and quarters.

Independent Activity

  1. Open your green lined book.
  2. Rule a line under any previous work to rule off.
  3. Write today’s date.
  4. Write the heading “My Fraction Pizza”

Now, you’re ready to begin your task.

  1. Who likes pizza? Create a quick list of the ingredients you would use on your dream pizza.
  2. Draw a pizza using your dream ingredients in your green book. Make sure you have coloured it in, sliced it into quarters, and have drawn different types of ingredients in all the quarters.
  3. Next, you need to record the different ways you have placed toppings on your pizza. You need to write them as a fraction and in worded form. See the example below to see how they have written their answer as a fraction and in worded form.

Have a look at this fraction pizza to get some inspiration…
